I know I've said it before, but last night really was hell on earth! Both Tilly and Jasper have been grizzly for a couple of days, but last night was tag-team teething twins :( Jasper's top gum looks like he has a full set of teeth just waiting to break through all at the same time - poor mite. And Tilly is still getting the hang of teething and isn't finding it very comfortable. Trying to comfort one baby whilst the other is screaming their head off is virtually impossible... and nothing was consoling either of them. The teething gel didn't seem to make a difference, and the Calpol possibly helped when they eventually calmed down each time, but after the 4 hours was up and the effects had worn off you could guarantee that they would wake up screaming.
The word on the street is that Bickiepegs are good for teething, Heather's twins are apparently users... but getting hold of them is really quite difficult. So, this morning 'Operation Bickiepegs' began. I set off for work early in order to stop off via Tesco but was unfortunately unsuccessful... and left with only a double espresso.
Then when I got to work I put the word out on Twitter and Facebook that I was looking to get hold of some. Several reliable sources informed me that it is possible to get hold of them on the street - you just needed to know where to look. Boots, Kiddicare and Lloyds Pharmacy were mentioned, Anbesol was suggested as something that could be used in conjunction with Bickiepegs to heighten the effect... and some people even suggested going for even stronger stuff... Medised (but we won't be going along that route). So the next stage of the plan was to try Boots during my lunchbreak. I knew it was going to be tricky, getting there and back in an hour was going to be difficult without getting caught, but I just had to risk it.
I was met with blank looks in Boots when I asked over the counter. I have a feeling the shop assistant was a little naive to these things so I had a look along the shelves myself and found nothing. I was literally on the verge of tears... there was no way I can get through another night like the night before!
Luckily I managed to get back to work before anyone realised where I'd been. But this left me with only one option... to hit Lloyds Pharmacy on the way home.
I parked directly outside so that I could make a quick getaway if necessary. It was getting late, so there were very few customers in the shop. I made my way discreetly to the counter at the back of the shop where I greeted the strange looking chemist with a wink. He immediately produced 2 boxes of Bickiepegs and a bottle of Anbesol from under the counter... I actually skipped with delight! In fact it was difficult not to reach over and hug the man. It was going to be a good night :)
The twins welcomed the Bickiepegs with delirious smiles and with the added Anbesol it seems to have had the desired effect. They went to sleep like a dream and there hasn't been a peep so far tonight...
